what happens to text columns when they get bcp'ed out?

The project from hell...the "developer" knew access...thought text was Access text...painful...

I'll be finding out soon I guess...any comments (sympathy) appreciated...

BTW ... am working on converting some ABAP code into stored procs ... and believe me ... i am forced to use cursors :(|||Inheritance...like I got the app to support and it's a piece of garbage...

BCP Deployment

Hi all,

I am doing a project that involved with the big volume of data to be
uploaded to the SQL server. Due to the limitation at my employer's
site, I couldn't have the bulk admin right. I am looking at the
command BCP and wonder if there is any copyright issues if I were to
use BCP and to deploy the command?

The use of BCP and the other client tools are governed by the EULA. Without
knowing the exact details of what you are trying to do it would not be
possible to say if you are covered or not.

BATCH Update ?

Hi all,

we need to update many single cells with individual MDX Update Statements.
We're doing this with ADOMD now (C# Project) in a loop.
In order to save roundtrips and put things in one transaction
we considered using the <Batch> Element of XMLA.
I could'nt find a example how to use this with MDX Commands.
this doesnt work:

<Command>
<Statement>
UPDATE ..
</Statement>
</Command>
<Command>
<Statement>
UPDATE..
</Statement>
</Command>
</Batch>

The Batch element at line 7, column 22 (namespace urn:schemas-microsoft-com:xml-analysis) cannot appear under Envelope/Body/Execute/Command.

Do you have any hints ?
BTW: what happend to www.xmla.org, its down?
Wher can I find a complete schema file for XMLA?

You can update multiple cell values in a single Update statement seperated by commas.

For example:

UPDATE CUBE [Cube1] SET

(USA, Sales) = 100 USE_EQUAL_ALLOCATION,

(Canada, Sales) = 50 USE_EQUAL_ALLOCATION

Basic steps as how to web usage mine in sql server 2005

I am doing a project on web usage mining of my universities server logs and im just wondering how i go about mining them in sql server 2005?

Do i mine them in one table? do i normalise the web log data? what algorithms will i use on them as im trying to get usage patterns from the users and also where most of the users come from.

Here’re some thoughts that might help you design your Data Mining for weblogs:

1. You can put the data in one or more tables as per the semantics of the data. Data which is an entity by itself should be put in a flat table with one key per entry (user sessions on the web server for example), whereas some data naturally will have a many to one relation with the primary data (page visits per session for example) and can be put in a separate table with primary/foreign key relationship. SQL Server 2005 will model them as case table/nested table for the purpose of mining.

2. Normalize: Depends on what your data looks like. If you want to run clustering algorithm and your data has two attributes, A and B and A is 10 times more important than B, you should normalize accordingly. If the actual values of A are in order of thousand and actual values ob B are in order of tens and they are equally important, you should again normalize. However, if you want to use the as-is value without a weight, you do not have to normalize the data.

3. Usage Patterns, like a sequence of page visits can be modeled using sequence clustering algorithm. User categorization based on attributes might be a clustering algorithm. If you have more information on what you want to find out, I might be able to suggest more specific choices.

I have just installed SQL server 2005 standard edition - how do I create a
basic server and user accounts in order to then install Project Server?

Postings in the project server news groups discuss how you can work around
this to get it working, but you should not use this on a production system
